Art and Architecture of the Francophone World
This online course provides an introduction to the art - in the large sense (e.g., painting, sculpture, music, dance) - and architecture of the Francophone world outside of France. Beginning with French colonial times and ending with contemporary creations, this course explores the most influential pieces of Francophone art and architecture. Historical circumstances will be taken into account so that the student is able to understand what both art and architecture reveal about the Francophone influence of thought and culture. In addition to discovering the cultural and historical background to artistic constructions through course readings, viewings, and pedagogical activities, students will design a lesson plan that appropriately incorporates course material into the L2 French classroom. Three (3) graduate-level credits. Taught in French by Dr. Alexandra Shaeffer.
